Hello!

So this is my first time hatching anything. My white layer ducks are on day 27 and only 2 have piped and there is no egg rocking or sound at all. Is this normal? I’m scared to candle them because they are in lockdown and I read you shouldn’t open the incubator. Is this normal? Or any advice?

Welcome to BYC!

How many do you have in total? Or they internal or external pips? Sometimes they'll take a break for a while. Hatching is hard work! Duck eggs normally hatch on day 28 so they should be okay for now. It can take up to 72 hours for eggs to go from pip to zip. If you notice no movement or sounds for over an hour, I'd investigate.

Thanks for the reply! There are 6 total. 2 external pips. Is it ok to open the incubator to investigate?

Because they are externally pipped, they should be getting enough oxygen. I'd tap on the outside first and see if you get a response.

If you open the incubator make sure you don't lose to much humidity. To much humidity loss will shrink wrap them and they will get stuck and die or need help.
