Day 27 pips?

Bought some bobwhite quail eggs online and since this was my first attempt at hatching went by their incubating instructions...........

99.7 until day 21 then lockdown.........I candled one at this time and could see some feathers and even saw movement.Figured this was a good sign and went into lockdown at 99.2 .......nothing at day 25.

Candled another one and it looked the same as day 21 ....but I spent a little extra time looking with the flashlight and figured they had died since I could see a fair amount of yolk still left in the egg.......I then float tested 3 others and they all passed with about 10-15% of egg shown floating.

Put them back in ..........what did I have to lose but had about given up and then today at the 27 day mark almost exactly pips started.......a couple little holes in the same egg.

Temps were good at 99.7 the whole time but not sure about the humidity....only time lid was off was to refill water and recovered temp quickly.I am worried eggs dried out and wondering at what point I have to consider helping them out if at all.

Not considering helping at all yet as eggs are rocking and rolling on the screen and I know a zip can take a while after a pip but they are 3 days overdue per companys incubating time line.

Could sure use some advice from someone with some experience

Um..........I don't know what happened but 27 days is not good. In fact, something, somewhere has gone wrong. Either the eggs weren't fertile, or the temperature is wrong. Or they dried out or something. I suppose there is no harm in leaving them, but there is only enough nutrients in the egg to keep the embryo alive for the incubation period, plus 3 days at the most. You are already past that.

Hatching now at day 28................????????????

One out by it's self......Helped one a bit after it wasn't out 4 hrs after the zip and didn't seem strong enough to fully push out'

I was really hoping a vet would take a look at the link and see if info I was using was correct .....searched here but seems hard to find much on bobwhites.

Glad I didn't toss them.......looks like others will get a full zip ......... a couple piped the small end and I fear they are now dead but hopefully will get a few more.

If not I'll have a couple house quail if they make it.

I'm guessing dry eggs plus not in correct position to zip is my problem........the 2 that are out are moving the other eggs all around bumping into and pecking at the other pips.

Most Common Cause For Slow Hatch Is Cold Temperatures In The Incubation Process (might Wanna Take A Good Look At That Thermometer Your Using?? ) The Breech Pips Can Be From Turning Too Long, Sometimes Dry Humidity Causes It And Sometimes There Just That 1 "special Kid" In The Bunch...

If You Find Foot Or Leg Deformities Or Severely Crooked Necks In The Hatched Chicks Thats A Dead Give Away Humidity Was Botched Somewhere Along The Line.

Also Check Your Math... The Day You Set Them Is Day "zero" Not Day 1... So They May Not Be As Late As You Suspect??? When You Float Tested Them Were Any Rocking And Bobbing While Floating?

Jumbo Brown,
White Texas A&M,
,Tibiam
Tuxedo quail
ALL started march 23
when would lockdown be for them?
and what humidity should it be on?

Approx 4/6/11 Incubation Humidity 45-55%, Lockdown Humidity 65+%

so far 4 of 12 have hatched..........expect 3 to live....possibly one more to hatch tonight.

OBV I want more quail then that but I'm glad I only started with 12 'till I learn what I'm doing.
