I’ve been incubating my egg and candling it daily, the embryo has been strong the past couple days and suddenly on day 27 I could no longer see any movement or veins, I still can see the dark spots but other than that not much. I also noticed some change in color of the egg shell, I’m not sure if it’s bruising or what.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Did your duck egg hatch? That "bruising" you saw is normal and they can't move much at the end as they fill up the egg.

It didn’t end up hatching, for 3 days I would check different times of the day for movement and couldn’t find any, it was already day 30 so we opened up the egg and we were right, the duck was dead, so we buried it

Awe, I'm so sorry! :hugs

Don't let this get you down. Most times it's not something we did, it's the mom who laid it or the chick/duckling had an issue. And even if it is something we did or didn't do right, this is how we learn. I hope you'll try again!

I'm sorry to hear it didn't make it. Duck eggs can be difficult to hatch. One thing that has helped me with hatching duck eggs is to poke a small air hole in the top of the egg once they have internally pipped. You candle the egg and look to see if the duckling has poked a hole in the air cell. If the duckling has poked through the air cell, then you can poke a hole in the top of the egg. This helps give them extra air since they can take longer to hatch.
