This is a busy board!! It is wonderful seeing so many getting chickens, and to have a great place to come for help!
Our 6 ready to lay hens are settling in I am thinking! We are keeping them in the coop for a couple weeks so they know this is where they belong at night to be safe. We still have to make their run, and it will be fun to watch them move about even more. In the coop, last night they found their way up to the nesting area, where we made 6 stalls. However we found them all huddled together, on top of each other in this little space? They seemed content? So we closed them up for the night, and this morning, 1 found her way down before we got out there, and then I watched the others find their way down to the food and water. One is back up there right now, maybe she feels like hanging out away from the others. I gave them some strawberries 1st day, yesterday gave them some bread. I had some cracked corn in my fingers, they seemed interested to come closer, but didn't come too close to me.

So, I hope and pray they will be fine and healthy and happy here. My 1st chickens EVER! Very exciting.

One more question......after this New Member Introductions, should I post to another board?? I have appreciated all replies and welcomes - love it here!

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Debbie

Welcome to Backyard chickens. it's nice to meet you Debbie.. Usually shutting them up in the coop for 2-3 days is sufficient. They will consider it home and return to it at
dusk.

When you start with older birds, it takes longer to win them over. They may have been raised with very little human contact. You have a bright flock leader that is showing the others how everything is done. All you need is one good example and the others will do the same.

Yes, you may wander off to other forums or threads. You may want to visit a few to see if they meet your liking.
