Day 3 incubation Candleing

If you roll it or shake it, it will move. The yolk is not centered in the shell as they are when hard boiled. The chalazae are long and flexible and support the yolk rather than tying it down.

Day 3 should just be showing a warmer tint to the yolk as the blood vessels begin to form.

Day 5 you should see threadlike blood vessels going up to the air cell.

Day 7 you should see good veining and a red tint to the yolk.

Day 10 you should actually be able to see something that looks defined.

This is based on medium brown eggshells. Olive eggers and dark browns are much more difficult, blue and white are easier.

Thanks WalutHill!!! That answer my question perfectly! I have mostly production red and buffs in the incubator. I was really worried because #1 it's my first time incubating so I thought that in a forced air incubator there would not be any hot spots. After purchasing another thermomete I found that to be very wrong. The temp was 101 under the fan even though the fan blows upwards! I did drop an egg when candling and sadly it was developing but relieved me that they didn't get too hot. In cause your wondering I have the Little Giant 9300 with 7300 fan kit and egg turner.

HatchBatch, I am to early to really see anything when candling, but while candling I dropped and egg on my granite floor and of course it broke! Like I told WalnutHill I was upset yet releived at the same time because I did see lots of veins. I am very excited to hatch out my first baby chicks!!! Hope all goes well because this digital thermostat is getting a little crazy on me now. I have to set it at 100 degrees for it to shut off at 99.5 and it will sometimes go to 100.5. With the different temperatures throughout the bator, it has me in the edge!

If your temperature stays between 99.5 and 100.5, that is perfectly fine. The average of the two is 100, which is where you have it set.

When I ran my Little Giants last year, I moved the eggs from the middle to the edges and from the edges to the middle every couple of days to average out the temperatures. The corners tend to be colder, and the middle tends to be hotter.

i woke up this morning to my tempertsure at 106. I am calling little giant when I get off of work! The thermostat had been acting weird but it never did this, I'm not happy. I probably lost most of not all of them. I have no idea how long it was like that.
