I have two new chicks today - one seems VERY sleepy - like falling asleep in the food, falling asleep anywhere if she's there for more than a minute. Poop looks fine, drinking fine, not really eating, though I remember one in my first batch (last year) that didn't really figure out food until day 4 and was just fine. Does this sound normal for this age - shipping stress??, or should she be more active?
I've led her to the food and she will peck a little, but I've only seen her eat maybe 2-3 tiny crumbles. I made a small amount of mash thinking that might be easier for her to figure out, but she pecked at it a tiny bit and then fell asleep again.
They've got plain water in a nipple waterer that they've already figured out and electrolytes & probiotics in another waterer, which is the one they seem to prefer.
I'm tempted to go get another chick while they have extras as a buddy for the one who's doing fine just in case she doesn't make it. Or am I just impatient, and she may be ok?
