When free ranging outside of fencing things happen. Duck is high on the menu for many predators . Have you seen any changes in the egg today?

First time jittery mom here. Incubating eggs for daughter who has lost all 3 duck moms to a fox. First batch of 11 has 1 left and has been in lockdown 5 days. No internal pip as of yet . I put in lockdown according to calendar but house was cool for first 5 days then I invested in a proper incubator instead of homemade one she supplied me with. I candled yesterday and there was very slight movement. How long do I wait? I now understand nervous as a mother hen! 9 more eggs to follow in next week

Finally arrived! 8 days after due date. However eyes seem to have no vision and are black and dry and feet are not splayed apart. He hatched about 7 hours ago. Butt is red too. Is this normal?

Could be the navel. Don't know about the eyes. Someone more knowledgeable than me will be along shortly.

Dropped some warm water with q tip on eyes. Seems to have helped

Never thought about navel ‍

Terramycin eye ointment for the eyes. Navel keep the duckling on something very soft so it doesn’t drag itself around and cause it to bleed. Infection can happen. It should keep absorbing the yolk.
