Day 35. Muscovy Hen crushing eggs? PICS

I hope so too. I'm having no luck with anything animal related lately. My guineas keep getting run over. My muscovies are be stupid mothers. One hen started with 13 eggs. Then2 weeks ago she had 4 then the next week 3. Then last weekend one of the three ended up in the driveway with a dead duckling. No Idea where she put those eggs or what happened. Then I had a hen give up on her nest because the roosters wouldn't leave her alone. It so frusterating!

Anyone have any idea why the duckling in the pic had such a yolk sac left yet?

Wow, you are having a hard time.

I wonder if the yolk sack was still there because mama tried to "help" shortly after baby pipped? So baby never really got to finish absorbing it before it all went south. Any other hatchlings?

I had ONE momma duck that tried helping her babies hatch. I found one (with a small yolk sac still) about 30 feet away from her nest, still wet too...almost like she was trying to take it with her. Maybe she was too nervous to leave it but really had to go potty?? that sounds so dumb but maybe, mommas get crazy when they have babies

and it gets even better today. Came home one hen (Daisey Duck) had a rotten egg explode in her nest and kept peeping at me and staring at it. So I guess I will have to clean out her nest and set it back up for her again. Then the problem hen is short a few eggs but I only found one duckling kicked out of the nest and dead. Wonderful. Anything else go wrong?

How frustrating for you. Do you think any will make it? How many more eggs does the momma have who is breaking them? Do you think you could put them in the incubator?

I am sorry, it stinks to lose them after all that waiting and stres!! I have been having the same luck here at my place, not with ducks but my stupid hens.I finally had enough and sold all 3 broodies to a lady who wanted them to just sit on her peacock eggs! They were all terrible , I only got 2 chicks that lived from about 18 eggs, then my favorite hen got eaten by a fox then the same night my goat barn burned down and then my cats kittens all got a bad cold and one died!! I hope it gets better . Good news is I found my new pekins nest and last check there was 8 eggs out there yeah:lol:

I have a turkey who crushes her eggs just like the one in your picture. It's almost as if she's trying to turn them as they're hatching. She's setting on ten eggs now and as soon as I hear a peep they're going in the incubator.
I also have a Muskovy that's due to hatch any day now and after seeing your pictures I'm getting a little nervious. 35 days is a long wait for something like that to happen. I know how dissapointed you must be but, don't give up. My first few hatchs were real good with my turkeys and since then it has all been down hill.

I just really really really hope the other hens do good. There are 2 hens left that have not yet had any problems. So

...I should know in the next few days. I was really hoping to see some ducklings running around the yard. I really want a white muscovy to hatch but I should just keep my fingers crossed for a good hatch.
