I have set my first batch of eggs. 3 under my broody silkie and 9 in my son's homemade incubator (which this is all a 4H project for him... and FUN for me)...

How do you people do it? I can't sleep, I check the temps constantly, have to adjust all the time due to the crazy weather and temp changes outside... there's too much humidity, not enough... can't decide what range for temp and humidity is safe...

too hot is bad, but what is considered too cold... oh my... it was easier birthing my own children than waiting for these chicks to hatch.

I'm already addicted to my 3 silkies and 1 WC Polish bantam... now this hatching thing... my sanity is slowing creeping away from me... (I even go home for lunch to check on them... and I never go home for lunch).

If you happen across my sanity, please pack it up and ship it direct to me. My husband will thank you.

Actually I have my mother set to babysit the eggs the day they are due to hatch. I can't take that day off of work (or I would)... and I want someone there watching. I can see it now... late to work that day, long lunch, and sneaking out early... that will go over well.

My mother is so excited... she just loves the ones we have... and wants one of the what we hatch (if they hatch)...

I have a feeling this chicken thing and hatching eggs thing is going to become a problem. My kids are growing up and I have that need to mother something... and I just love having my current chickens and I want more and more and more... but I can't have more and more and more... I need to move... I need more property... I need to be legal... (my neighbors love my girls... no problem there).

I have to remember to breath...

i empathize w/u... i have 2 more days of lockdown and im going crazy waiting... nothing yet not a single pip..sigh.. i hope some of them make it. the temps have went kinda crazy but the humidity stays the same..i think its the stormy weather we r having...good luck with ur little ones.

Okay... day 6 is better than day 5... I candled 3 eggs last night and calmed myself down a little. I saw what looked like veins... so I feel better. Come on day 7...

I told my wife that our first hatch was causing me more anxiety than anything that had happened since she delivered our last child. She said it was just because I was broody!

Had to laugh because she was right!

My husband just rolls his eyes at me when I run out at 3:00 am to check on the incubator temp and humidity...

Okay... we are on day 9... I think we have 3 duds... 2 not fertile, 1 didn't develop... but I haven't removed them yet (just in case).

We candled a few earlier today... it was so cool... I could see them moving around. I'm so excited I can't stand it.

I don't know how you all do this...
