Candling is SO hard the first few times. I would give them a little longer. A few things to consider:
Try candling after dark, with all the lights out. The darker the room, the easier it is to see-this can make a HUGE difference.
Make sure you've got a good, strong light. A good quality flashlight is fine. The better the light quality, the easier it is to see.
Brown eggs are harder to see through, so don't expect as much.
What you describe sounds normal--for a fertile egg--an infertile egg will look mostly clear. You have air pocket, then dark mass (in which you will see veining *if* you're able to see veins), then light at the other end. As incubation progresses, the air pocket will get larger, as will the dark mass, so the clear end will get smaller.
Wait a few days and try again in a very very dark spot. In a good closet with a tight-shutting door is a good place, and even better if it's night.
