I'm new here, although I've been reading for a couple weeks! We are in the middle of our first incubation (9 days completed) and just removed the eggs we believed were infertile or dead from candling. I'd like some input from the seasoned members here! We had 2 we believed were dead, and being nervous about eggsplosions, we removed them and did an Eggtopsy. This one, above, had an obvious blood ring on candling, a murky middle, and all the nice spider veins had disappeared. My guess is death day 6 maybe but it honestly looks like a piece of raw chicken breast, he shouldn't be meaty like that right?
The details:
Hovabator incubator with fan
Aiming for 99.5*F but it varies between 99.5 and 100.5, I'm worried about the higher temps
We haven't checked humidity as I don't have a hygrometer. We have the tray 1 filled with water. We live in a very dry climate and I'm having to top it up almost daily.
The chicken eggs we got from a hobby farm, and are mixed favorelles (sp?) Americauna and "Easter eggers". Some of the eggs had some minor soiling visible but I read not to wash them... In hindsight with any soiling I wouldn't have incubated them.
Hand turning 3-5x daily but I only thought of using medical gloves yesterday so before that it was with freshly washed hands.
Candling almost daily since day 4, one egg at a time, right beside incubator so the egg is out less than 3 minutes. Candling horizontally.
38 eggs put in day 0.

My guess is death around day 4?
Any ideas what went wrong? I don't know if I'm stressing too much (hovering) or not enough!!!
We have 16 doing awesome, candling right on target. We have 2 doing awesome but with air pockets not centered in the blunt end, more on the side... (Not enough turning?). I'm scrared for them to pip out and will put the air cell on top for lockdown. Anything else I can do?
One with a blood ring but still showing movement and decent size and development so will watch him. And then these 2.... The remainder showed infertile or else only several hours growth (a bit of white growth in the bullseye section).
