Day 9 Eggtopsy Help Please!

Howdy :frow and Welcome to Backyard Chickens.

Happy :ya to have you here with us. Enjoy your time here at BYC!
Yes, the 1st pic looks like how a early quitter will look like, what you say looks like a piece of chicken breast is the embryo. I'd say it is about 8 days. The 2nd pic is a very early quitter, probably day 3. The blood rings can occur due to rough handling, shaking and/ or vibrations. Too much handling isn't good for incubated eggs. Try candling on day 8, 14 and then just before you go into lockdown, day 19 for chickens.
As previously stated, get a hygrometer or two and perform a salt test calibration on the monitor, you will then be better able to adjust the humidity to your local conditions.

Ok so I went to Walmart right after it was suggested, and bought a digital hygrometer / thermometer. Placed it in the incubator and humidity was good, 53%. Temp though was low, 97.3. I was like aha, and turned the temp up. Checked 24 hours later and seem to have like 4 more embryo deaths .

Went out, bought a non digital temperature hygrometer, and have just stuck it in. I now have 4 thermometers in there, all reading different temps, and 2 hygrometers reading different humidities.

I just thought of using my kids forehead thermometer on each egg and they are reading 101-102 . I'm horrified.

I can't sleep or eat this is so stressful.

Further examined this quitter, he had eyes but no beak, wings, but lower limb buds either just forming or indistinct. The part that looked like a chicken breast popped and drained thin pinkish fluid.

And this dude had jointed wings and jointed legs, was lying on his tummy with head turned to side. Large beak but no eyes.

For handling, when I candle it's no more movement when I turn. Should I be rotating them really slowly? If the incubator gets bumped (which it has a couple times- that they rocked slightly back and forth) is that enough vibration to kill them?

I've cooled them down to where their "foreheads" are reading 99.3-100.3. my thermometers are reading 95-98 and the forehead.one reads 99.3 in the air.
