I have a turkey poult that hatched early. There was no umbilical cord still attached, and no blood. But there is clear sticky stuff all over (almost like egg white, and it dries hard like glue) this turkey is chirping. But can't stand. And hasn't been able to open its eyes yet...what can I do, it hatched yesterday around noon, and is still thriving, now today it's able to lift its head... what should or can I do to help this poor little premature hatchling? The eggs were supposed to go in lockdown today, but this one hatched yesterday.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Clean the egg white off using warm running water or a warm damp cloth.. the down won't fluff up under that cement and the eyes *might* be glued shut.. gently blow dry OR stick back into the bator to dry off.

After cleaning up and drying out..

Do you have any poultry nutri drench or other poultry vitamin supplements on hand? If yes to the PND.. consider holding the poult in your hand with beak facing the bend in your forefinger.. and place a drop just below the nostrils, use the bend in your finger to help direct the drop and beak together.. the baby will gobble and swallow when it feels the drip roll around into its mouth.

Thankyou... I did the warm water and baby seems to be doing better. Has it's eyes open. And I make a homemade electrolyte recipe that I keep on hand 24/7.... it drank some of that... but I do not have any nutri drench... I do need to get some more. I do have Vet RX for poultry.

Sounds great! That dried albumin can be debilitataiing.

Skip the vet rx.. homemade electrolytes are a great resource.. Nutri drench has amino acids that sometimes work miracles when needed. Hopefully some friends will be along shortly.

Happy hatching! :jumpy

I was not using the vet rx, I just stated that that's all I had, besides the electrolytes... baby is doing better now... but... it can't keep it's legs under it... they keep going straight out behind.... not like straddle leg... but straight back... I sit it up and tick the legs underneath and as soon as it tries to walk it falls forward and the legs go backwards again
