DAY OLD CHICK FOUND OUTSIDE NOT MOVING BUT STILL ALIVE - UPDATE #2

I read a thread where somebody almost lost a chick because it got caught up in the mother's feathers when they were under her and she got up to go eat or something. They found the chick before it died. Actually, more than one person said that happened to them, too. Maybe she got caught in the mom's feathers and then fell off when the mom accidentally dragged her outside. Just another possibility. Just take care of that poor wee little one. That's a silkie, isn't it? Soooo sweet!

none said anything about stimulating. what exactly do i need to do for that? like you do with a kitten - wet warm rag on their bootie to stimulate poop?

and birdlover, I was thinking this might have been how the little one got outside. I saw the hens or at least one of the two mamas came out of the coop yesterday and took a big broody poo, so maybe the little one was fresh out of its egg then and was stuck under her wing.

the chicks are all bantam silkie/cochin crosses. they have two great mamas who have now hatched all 9 of the eggs they've been sitting on so lovingly. this is their first clutch. i'm so happy, even with the close call with the little one today.

best,
maggie
