Hi all, I’ve just rescued a brand new chick from down our road, where it’s been left behind by its mother and siblings. It seems ok. I raised 2 chicks last year in a brooder, however they were a bit older when we got them and also had each other for company/warmth. I’m just after a couple pointers for this little one, namely:

- it’s under an eco glow brooder plate, but it’s just staying under there and not really coming out or moving around too much - is this ok? Like I said, I think it’s no more than a day old so maybe it was the last one to hatch

- I’ve got chick starter and water in the brooder, but I’m guessing it won’t eat for a day or so?

Any advice appreciated!

If it's just a day old, no it doesn't need to eat or drink just yet. You could put in a small mirror or a stuffed animal to give it company, since it's by itself - the mirror may also encourage it to come out from under the brooder to check out the "new chick."
