I just got a chick in the mail that has severe scissor beak and is missing an eye. It seems fine now, but from what I have read scissor beak only gets worse and it is already really bad to begin with. Is there any hope it will make it or should this be a mercy cull early on

Strange enough that a hatchery would send out a chick like this.

I would cull and call the hatchery to send replacement.

If you're going to cull it, I'd do it sooner than later. My scissor beak is 3 years old now. She's a fantastic chicken and I love her but if I'd been here when she arrived as a day-old, I might have been smart/brave/hard enough to do her in then. Her beak worsened as she aged and is now at about a 90 degree angle to her top beak. She has home-made smoothies 2 or 3 times a day. She has a bath once or twice a week. She winters in the South with us (because who is going to care for a Special Needs hen in the winter when I'm down south for the winter months?) Now that I'm looking at the pic of your little fluffer I have to admit, of COURSE I could not have done in my Beakie when she was a day old!
