Day Old Chicks :(

Was hit hard the other day reading an article about the USPS shutdowns when they mentioned that there were dead chicks in sorting facilities... I’ve ordered day olds and the image in my mind was too much to bear. My heart goes out to those precious souls and anyone who mailordered for their flocks these past few weeks only to be faced with horror upon arrival.

I was reading about it this morning. I've been back and forth on ordering four more ducklings. Reading the articles this morning made the decision for me. Better not to right now. It's so sad

I haven't ordered live chicks because of USPS's historical unreliability...and personally seeing how hatching eggs have been (mis)handled by them (it's particularly bad now, so bad that I'm holding off on ordering them), I'm unwilling to risk it. I wish there was a better alternative.

Oh, absolutely... I think everyone needs to take a pause ordering right now. It’s just too risky. I wanted a new batch of hens, but there is also a quarantine for So Cal.

Did it? I’ll need to check... I was so upset because earlier this Spring Meyer *finally* had the rare breeds I wanted — Jubilee, Splash, and Lavender Orpingtons — all available at the same time and they couldn’t take the order because of the quarantine... now that it’s lifted they are not stocked and can’t be shipped anyway.
