Hey everyone! We had two chicks hatch yesterday. Welsummer roo and Buff Orpington hen. The millefleur d’uccle is just the surrogate broody hen. They look very different from each other so I think it’s safe to say I have one of each. Any ideas?

Adorable chicks! Congratulations! :love

Unfortunately chicks cannot be sexed from day one (excluding vent sexing, which if not done correctly can hurt or kill the chick. Very risky for non-experts like me and you.). You will probably have to wait several weeks before you can tell.

Feather sexing only works for chickens with certain genetics. Some breeds and crosses are sex-linked so their gender can be figured out just by looking at their down color, but neither of your breeds are. Some old folk methods are said to have a 60-70 percent accuracy, but are not scientifically proven.

So you'll just have to wait. They are so cute though!
