Got 16 white leghorns from Cackle and got a call very early from the PO, which I requested to expedite care and I just simply wanted them. They have done great today. Drank a lot, ate a lot, slept a lot, especially this evening. Pretty quiet overall. I took a small bath towel and rolled it then made a circle with it under the infrared light and they really seem to love that as they line up like spokes on a bicycle and it gives their oh so sweet little heads a place to lay when their sleeping. Naturally very curious as to what I was doing every time I changed out their water/paper towels/etc.

I'm not sure if you've ever had leghorns before, I always have at least two, and I have chicks right now, and I'm gearing myself up for their flighty ways. When chicks, they can be very wild, they are flighty, will be the first to fly over the brooder box, and will act as if you are a monster to run away from.

Mine have always calmed down though, once they begin laying, still don't like to really be held, but will jump up on my lap for treats. But they are crazy when they are chicks. I love mine though!

Thank you for the heads up! These are my first leghorns and that is something I had read that among chickens they are very athletic. They behaved as they were cold with the height I had on the light yesterday so we dropped it an inch even though it was reading a perfect temp. Perhaps because they are smaller birds? They are in a massive plastic tub so there could not have been a draft.
