daylight fox attack

Foxes will hunt by day this time of year to feed young. Young foxes will also hunt by day just to stay fed. In our first year of having chickens we lost four to a fox at noon. We didn't know there was a den with 6 kits under a neighbor's shed.

We are keeping our girls (and guys) inside till we catch the daytime fox. They are so wanting to get out. After getting 3 of our favorite layers (and buddies)the other afternoon, we have a live trap out. Of course they weren't hungry for a few days. (I say they cause I figure there is a family to feed.) Then today a friend was getting some firewood from our fallen trees and saw the fox near the coup. The girls sounded like an alarm. I heard them this morning too when I took the dog out, but saw nothing. We've been so lucky the past few years. These sexlink chickens are such social & friendly creatures- you don't want anything to happen to them. Keep your fingers crossed that we catch the thief.
