dbaby mouse

It is very difficult to hand raise baby mice...especially before their eyes open. here is a website with lots of info on handraising...

KMR is your best option, and he/she must be fed every couple of hours to have a fighting chance. The eyes open at approximately 2 weeks of age.

I have had 2 experiences with handraising wild mice...the first opened her eyes the day she was brought into the store I worked at and thrived....the second was a pair of babies who's eyes were closed when brought in ...they were hand fed for weeks and did not grow properly and we ultimately lost both of them

OMG I didn't even catch this til you posted your laughs....

Lots of stuff on here is pretty funny, but I don't often actually laugh out loud! This may be the best one yet....

well he is still alive today.I found abit of tubing to attach to the syringe that is tiny enough to fit in his mouth. He did poop and pee today also and is crawling around alot. His little box is nice and toasty. From the looks of the pix he seems to be about 8-10 d old.

well I have still have the llittle guy and now he is eating a little mush I made for him onhis own.His eyes are still closed but he is eating away.i still feed him soy formula diluted and rub him w/qtip and he has been going to the br. ok.So maybe he will make it.The littermate died and he was bigger.this one is easier to handle and doesn't jump when I hold him.Topogeejo is his name.

I bottle raised a litter of baby mice once, I used KMR, and a warm water q-tip for the potty time. They did very well on that, I lost none, and I started with them before their eyes were open.

mybaby is still alive. He opened his eyes today. Now he eats his mush on his own.I dilute soy formula/h20 and add chick starter.I carry him around alot.He sits on my hand and cleans himself alot.I never thought one little baby mouse needed so much cleaning. He wash his little paws then rubs them behind his ears. Then he cleans his back legs he falls over and keeps on cleaning his leg.He lets me rub him behind his ears and his little back. Can they be tamed?

They can be SOMEWHAT tamed......but they will always be wild animals. A wild baby raised in captivity generally is not happy in a cage as an adult...they may adore you...but they won't like being contained, especially alone and will do everything in their power to escape. The one I raised that survived and did well was an absolute doll...super super sweet...but she managed to escape at ~2 months old from a tank I'd never had a problem with with domestic mice.

I think their temperments vary, and some will get very tame while others never will. Barney was always wild! As soon as his eyes opened I could no longer hold him. I had a fancy mouse (Fred) at the time and they lived together til Fred got some tumors and had to be put down.
