Do I need both? What do they do differently?

DE physically smothers the insects, as well as drying them out. It works to control external parasites the way a dust bath does, which is the chicken's natural defense. Unfortunately, it takes immature and artificially raised chickens a little while to learn how to do this as needed. Plus, they need dry dust to do it.

Sevin poisons the insects. With Sevin, the dust is mainly just the carrier for the concentrated poison, to help it spread.
