It would be neat if we could get a list of vets that would do this surgery and list them here.

De-crowing, although expensive, would make it so you could be more self suffiecient. You can replace your own hens and have meat birds, because you had fertile eggs to hatch. The extra males being the meat birds. Just would have to butcher them before they got to crowing good.. I would make sure it was a popular breed or one worth a bit of money. And a rooster that was up to the breeds standard before I would invest that much money in it. Then you could also sell hatching eggs. This would make it so many people who could never have roosters, be able to own them.

"ONLY" 5000 sq. ft.?!? Is that your house or the lot, etc. included? My house is a little over 1000 sq. ft. (DH, myself, our 3 adult children and a menagerie of pets live here) and I hate cleaning IT, much less something that's 5000 sq. ft.!!!!

you can get the roo caponized if you don't plan on using it to breed. i hear capons rarely crow if ever.

LOL, my property is 5000sq ft. My home is only 1500
