I live in the City and to keep the neighbors happy I bring my rooster in everynight. He hates it of course and lets me know by growling at me or seldomly biting me, hes usually pretty gentle to me. I put him in a trashcan that has holes and the lid cocked to the side for air. I change his hay out once a week. He does still crow but not till the light hits him at 7am or so. I shake the can a little and he goes back to sleep till about 9am when I let him and the hens out. I don't let them out before that because of raccoons in the early morning. If you put him in a closet he won't crow for quite a while longer, just a thought.

PS It is of course more work but I love to hear my Roo talk, growl, do his dance call and emergency call its saved his and the hens lives more than once.... I don't care for his crowing even during the day, sometimes I chase him to show him whos boss haha
