De-icer thoughts...

Hey all, I recently purchased a de-icer for my chickens water bucket for the upcoming winter. I was reading the instructions (imagine that!) and it states to not use extension cords which I thought was a little strange but I understand the risk. It does say thought that you can use with a LOCKNDRY extension cord that happens to be from the same company.
This the De-icer that I bought.
Does anyone here use an extension cord for their de-icer?
I currently have a fan running off of an extension cord but the connection point is under the roof so it will not get wet and neither will the de-icer.

I run a 12/3 50ft extension cord to my coop, for my deicer. It plugs into a covered ground fault, goes to the coop and plugs into a covered power inlet and works fine. As long as your connections are out of the weather, you should be fine.

Just make sure that the extension cord is rated for outdoor use, and is heavy duty enough for the wattage, and you should be good to go. I have a 100' cord that I run from my basement to my coop for the winter, and never have a problem.
