Hi everyone,
My name is Rebecca. I have actually been lurking on these forums and reading this valuable website for years, but have never registered and posted before now, because I didn't have any hope of getting chickens. Now that my husband and I are buying our first house soon, we've already decided that we want a small chicken coop in the backyard.
I've even known for a long time what kind of chickens I want (Buff Orpingtons, EEs, and one Bantam, maybe Brahma).
We have had 2 ducks before, that we kept as inside ducks (with duck diapers and everything), so we wouldn't get in more trouble with our picky HOA. They were a couple of Khaki Campbell ladies, and I loved the heck out of them. They were actually rescues, so we only kept them until they learned to fly, then they went to live with a family friend who had a single lonely duck on her farm. I don't miss cleaning up after them, but I do miss how they used to fall asleep on my chest, making the sweetest, most contented quacking noises.
We currently have 2 Border Collies, 1 Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua mix, 3 indoor cats, and a Hermann's tortoise. Our dream is to someday have enough land to have 2-3 horses (I used to have a grade mare in high school, still horse-crazy), a goat or two, 2 hogs for eating, and a small flock of chickens.
