Last week I had an bit of an arguement with our feed store. They are saying there is NO SUCH THING as food grade DE and cant order it.
I had to leave because she was basically calling me a liar because her "boss" couldnt find it or some such.

How hard is it to google it and see?
I wish there was someplace else to buy my chicken feed and bedding around here, because I WOULD.
It wasnt the fact that they didnt know about food grade. It was the snotty way they acted.

How would you handle it?
Though I am not going to bring it up to them again. I am going to go in, get my items and leave. Its probably the best way.

Google Perma Guard Diatomaceous Earth and tell them to do the same. They will find they are oh so wrong.

Yeah, there is nothing worse when you KNOW what you are talking about and they just brush you off like you are stupid.

They are THE feed store around here so supposed to be the authority and no one else knows anything. Grrrr....

I'd send them a letter or email explaining how disappointed you are with their service and lack of knowledge, and provide links / print-outs on food grade DE information. You might help some poor person who goes to them in the future looking for it who might get misinformed by their unenlightened staff, possibly at the expense of their flock.

I was told the same thing at one point at a feed store, and they sold me non food grade. I never used it because the labeling / cautions were too scary. I am glad I found BYC before I used it.

They tried to sell me non-food grade at first but thanks to here, I knew it wasnt what I was looking for.
I will probably do a couple of print outs this week and take it over to them.

They are carrying non-food grade diatomaceous earth at a feed store??? What in the world? Don't they know that is poisonous?

I find it scary and alarming that they would carry something of that nature and they are "the" feed store in your area.

if someone has a label claiming there is a "food grade" diatomaceous earth, please let me know via PM.

there is no food grade DE and it is not recognized as "organic." it can not be certified "organic" by any certifier. please let me know if this is the case.

I need to clarify. The feed store didnt say that the non food grade was safe to use around animals or be taken internally. They just said there is nothing that is food grade.

I have seen enough topics on here to know better.

Sounds like a typical feedstore with nobody that knows anything working there. Private mail me and tell me the name of the store and what town it is in. Just curious. I went in a feed store near me that is supposed to be a Kent dealer to get a bag of feed and all they had was the egg layer. They don't stock the rest !!! Big signs all over their building saying Kent feeds. Go Figure !!!! The place was filthy too.
