Can DE be used as a slug killer? My broccoli is getting killed by slugs. My wife wants to use slug killer but the hens get in there sometimes and I don't want slug killer in my eggs.

Beer is a good slug-killer. Put some beer in a container like an empty tuna can, and set in ground so that the top of the can is level with the ground. The slugs are attracted to the beer, fall in, and drown.

I don't know what effect beer has on chickens!

I use broken egg shells to create a border around the plants - slugs and snails can't cross them as it slices into them which then somehow kills them. Bad for slugs; good for the soil. And if you have chickens, the cost is definitely right!
