Does anyone have a guess for how much DE I might use per month: 4 sex link hens in a 4x4 coop and 12x4 run. How much do you use and how often? Also, where do you find the food grade kind? Do any major name stores carry it? Thanks!

I got a 40 lb. bag last Oct, and still have over half of the bag left. I found it at a local feed store, Tractor supply had no idea what I was talking about. My coop is 8x8 with 12 birds, and I sprinkle a couple of cups of it around every one or two weeks, or when I add new bedding. I also add a little to their feed every once in a while, the instructions says not more than 2% of their total diet.

I just ordered a 50# bag from 7 Springs Farm in VA. So far, I'm only adding to the feed. I read somewhere to use 1# DE per 20# feed, but I think that's a bit too much. I think I'm going to cut it in half this time around.

Breakdown on DE usage.

2% of feed= 2 lbs De per hundred feed or

1 lb DE per 50 lbs feed or

De weighs 3oz per cup=to 266 cups per 50 lbs of De or add

1 1/4 cup De to 10 lbs of feed. Hope this helps....

We get our food grade DE from Custom Milling. Maybe there is a dealer in PA that is close to you.

I got a 50# bag back in June and am about half-way through it right now. I use it quite often though...under the rabbit hutches, in the coops and runs, as a whitewash, in all of our animals' feed...My DE Page

Hope this helps!

I've used none in 50 years with excellent results.
