DE...where to buy and how much?

Just wondering where every one gets their DE? I can't seem to find it locally, and what I see online for the most part is kind of pricey. I did find this site that seems to have VERY reasonable prices, but if you know of one cheaper, please let me know. http://www.earthworkshealth.com/products.php

Seems that $27.50 is a pretty good price for 50#, but then again, I've never purchased it before...

I bought mine at the co-op. its' cheaper there. I paid $23.00 for a 50# bag. What are you planning on useing it for?

I got a 50# bag for 30.00 at our local feed store. We have 2 feed stores in our little town and only one of them carry it. We have to drive an hour to get to the next main city, so I didn't mind paying 30.00 for it!

Was going to use it in the coop, and on my dogs for fleas...and while I'm at it, I may as well sprinkle some in the garden to get rid of the slugs and Japanese beetles. Seems like some pretty hand stuff, so I see me going through 50# pretty easy. I just wish I could find it locally, because I imagine the shipping on a 50# item is pretty steep​

you'd just be sprinkling it or using a spreader. I tried it on my dogs and cat, and it didn't do too well for fleas, and I really put it on them! I'd get a smaller bag and see how you like it before shelling out more for a big bag. Myself, I could take it or leave it. I just don't see it as the big cure all. Oh, make sure you wear a little mask when you use it. It's wickedly hard on the lungs!

My having chickens is a pretty new thing...I was hoping it would help with any insect infestations in the coop during the summer...ants and such living in the bedding. My coop is a converted garden shed that is pretty much at ground level, so I may need something in the bedding to keep pests in check.....other than the birds themselves that is.

WOW! Sounds so familar! We're beginning our second year with chickens, and our coop is an old yard bard, ground level too! how cool is that! I do use the DE in the coop for pest control, I've seen no ants, mites or fleas, and it does help a little with keeping flys down. Got the DE for the same reasons that you're wanting it for too.

lol....my mind may have been great once, but I don't know these days...seems to be slippin' a bit...

Was looking at the web site for the sweet PDZ that they sell at TSC...looks like it has DE in it, so I guess my problem has been solved. Odor control and DE all in one. Not bad, but a bag was $9.99....looked like 10# maybe? Oh well, will even out after shipping charges I guess.
