Ok. New to chickens (3 austrolorpe, 3 red sex link). My chicks are two months old and have been outside for a month. I was turning over a new garden plot today - and the chicks were having a field day. I was trying to keep them out - but every time I turned my back another had a worm. So, having read dutifully on byc - it appears this is not a good thing. I haven't dewormed them yet, primarily because they won't let me near them (try as I might) so I'm looking for suggestions how to do this? Also, since I can't pick them up I have no clue how heavy they are for dosages....

I believe deworming only applies to small parasitic worms that live in the intestines, not to large ground worms such as earth and mealworms- which are a good source of protein and entertaining treat for the chickies.

Yes, but I even reading on here that the worms my chicks were eating are carriers of the parasitic ones. maybe I read it wrong though.....
