Ok, I just bought De that says earth safe organics. Is this food grade?? Can i give it to my chicks? What kind of yogurt can I give my chicks? Can I give my chicks all of the hard boiled eggs??? Last but not least, how can I feather sex?? Is this as accurate as venting?? How come hatcheries dont do this??? Can I do this on bantams??? What age should I feather sex?? Any info would be great!!! Thanks

If the DE does not specifically say feed grade or food grade then it probably isn't. I would not take a chance using DE that I am uncertain about. The non-food DE is very nasty to both humans and animals.

I tried the egg yesterday as I was freaked when one of my chicks was dead yesterday morning and I just felt I need to do something (that momma hen thing). I scrambled an egg and chopped it very fine and put a table spoon of it in - they looked and then walked away. Hmm. Sprinkled some mash over it and - Voila! Hey, this stuff is great and the feasting, chasing, scratching began - so fun to watch! I later tried some plain organic yogurt mixed in and they were NOT having any of that - even w/mash sprinkled on it. This a.m. I tried it again w/the yogurt (really want to get some probiotics in them) this time w/ less yogurt (just enough to coat the egg) sprinkled w/mash and YES - this time the girls were all in again. Yippee!!

very sorry to hear of your loss Eggnonymous.

I too tried to give yogurt and a few other treats and mine never seem interested ... sounds like you tried mixing the yogurt with the eggs and starter food and that worked?
