De

Diatomaceous Earth. You use it in feed, nests on the floor and on your birds for all kind of things. do a search for DE, or check out dawn419 she sells the stuff, but you want food grade not the kind that goes in swimming pool filters.Or google Custom milling or golden blend for a reps number. marrie

Okay, I have just googled and researched DE, and I am thinking of suing people for not making me aware of this much earlier!
I found it for sale on several websites, but the shipping cost does not thrill me. The stuff looks all light, then the shipping cost makes me think it's concrete instead. Do they typically have this product at feed stores or garden stores?

I found mine at an organic plant nursery. It is food grade.

It comes in 50 pound bags about the size of a feed bag.

There has been a decrease in flies around the coop/run since I've been using it.

I use about 1/2 cup for a full bucketl of feed. I sprinkle it around the coop and mix it with the pine shavings in the nest boxes. I also sprinkle it on the fireants with minimal results.

I am really concerned.....we had been using the codex food grade DE since day one (almost 2 yrs now) and finally ran out. I went to our feed store to get more yesterday and the price went up, and the bag got 10 pounds smaller...and its a different brand. It no longer is white and fluffy like the codex, but when I asked they said it was the same thing?????? It now looks grey??

should I take it back?

we used to pay $16.00 for 50 pounds of the food grade codex now its $20.00 for 40 pounds of what ever this stuff is.

I bought this as well. Search "Red Lake Earth" here and you will find a thread about it. It is mostly ash, not DE, and someone said that it killed her chickens and rabbits the week they added it to their feed. I fed it to my hens once before reading, and their laying slacked off greatly for a few days... I don't know if it was that or the weather, but I have only used it to sprinkle on the ground, not in feed, since. I do notice a fly reduction, and am trying to find the right kind locally.

someone, can't remember who on BYC used the red earth product. Or google custom milling or golden blend. I buy mine from the flea market from a man who sells food for exotic birds( emos, ostrich) or try search here on BTC for red earth and maybe find the person who had it good luck marrie
