De

Here's
the thread where someone used it and their animals died. It says on the bag that not more than 2% added to feed, and if it is 85% ash, then that is very little actual DE going in. I'm trying to find it locally.

I called my feed store this morning and was sooo happy to hear they carry DE. And, to make me even happier, they sell a 50 lb. bad for less than $30! Wahoo!!! Then I read about the Red Lake Earth, and checked the other posts, and called the feed store back. Asked "What brand?" He said Perma Guard. Wahoo, again!!! I'll be going in a few hours to pick some up, but I'll definitely read the ingredient label first.

You know, I've lived in this house for 11 years now, and we've never really had cockroaches. But this past week, I've seen one every day in either the kids' room or the bathroom. I figured it was because they are slobs, so we cleaned, cleaned, cleaned. Then I figured it's because we have piles and piles of dirty laundry around and I'm washing clothes in the bathtub because our washing machine broke down and Sears lied to me about the arrival time of the one I ordered.

Then, last night, my son and I went to grab hens under cover of darkness and move them to the chicken yard. As we admired our work, and made sure the hens were happy, suddenly all these cockroaches started coming out of the straw bales and nonchalantly walking around. The hens didn't even make a move for them! These straw bales are only 1 bale high, but 15 feet across both ways. They butt up against the pig pen. We've had the pigs since April. Do you think the increased cockroach population can be attributed to those pigs (who are, by the way, pigs)? I'm going to be sprinkling DE liberally on the straw bales, that's for sure.
