I’m hatching 8 baby quail right now, and it’s day 17. Yesterday one hatched and it’s doing great, I have it in my brooder with the head cover pad thing they go under. This morning another one hatched and was a bit darker in color than the other, more of a solid black while wet. It’s been 5 hours since the second one hatched and it was doing what the first one did, squeaking and walking around slightly as I wait for it to dry off. I was sitting next to it watching and suddenly it started rolling for a couple seconds. It’s done that before so I assumed it was fine then it stopped moving so I got a bit worried after I noticed it was breathing so I checked and gave it cpr after it had no reaction to it moving and it did not work and the baby ended up dying. Does anyone know the cause of this? My first quail hatched 2 days early and is doing great but this one hatched a day early and died..... any info would b amazing

This is an extremely late reply, but I’d like to know how the other ones hatched out?

Rolling after hatching is not always a bad thing, but it’s not always good either. It can have a number of causes. Perhaps the incubation conditions were slightly off, causing some “freak accident” kind of problem. Sorry, but there’s not a lot to work with here, if you know what I mean.
