My 9 month old Tom started saturday kinda sluggish, yesterday I noticed yellow running poop and he would leave his house. Well woke up this morning to find him dead and he had poop 2 piles of bloody poop. It has been below zeron here all most all winter. Heat light in house. He shared the house with a couple ducks a few guineas. I thought Black Head but he hasn't eaten worms since september. We have 4 ft of snow and a cold cold winter! I need to disifect coop but how when it is 5 degrees...ugh I have 2 coops but my chickens are in the other coop. I don't want this to take out my whole flock. Any suggestions?

Bummer. :(

Do you still have the carcass? If so, you can perform a gross necroscopy on the poor guy and either rule in/out blackhead pretty quickly (obvious liver lesions). See the necroscopy shots in this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/845407/2-dead-hens-in-one-day

If it is blackhead, here is a thread with lots of info and links: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/804570/coping-with-blackhead

Worming of entire flock with Fenbendazole (safeguard) is probably a good idea. (dosing for liquid wormer is .5ml per kilo).

Good luck!
