dead chick on second morning

It is because of the behavior of the rest of the brood that I do not think the plate had a thing to do with the loss of the chicks.
that’s my gut feeling @DobieLover, the rest of them are so energetic and thriving (so far). I just don’t know why she was standing like that but maybe we’ll never know. all seemed fine all day yesterday too.

when you guys have losses from hatchery orders, do you replace them with local TSC or feed store chicks? or just let it be? is it ok to mix them? thanks
There are laws in some states where you have to buy a minimum number of chicks from a store. Here in Ohio, it's six minimum. If you are looking to replace just the one, I wouldn't bother

Yes, it's okay to mix them. Most chickens don't care about what breeds they like and dislike. Places like TSC make you buy a minimum of either 3 or 5. How many do you have left?
It's not the store that has the rule, it's the law in some states. It was designed to deter the people that want to buy just one cute little chick for Easter

I hear that! why do people do that…
So sorry for the loss of your chick. She was likely weaker from hatch, shipping stress and simply not able to recover like the others. Hopefully you have no more losses. :hugs
thank you this makes me feel better.

I am seeing now one of my easter eggers had the beginnings of pasty butt. I was able to wipe it off and her vent now looks clean. what can I do to prevent more of it?? thank youuu
