So earlier today, I came to check on my hen. I saw a piece of an egg shell and actually squealed out loud, but when I saw the chick, my excitement died down. The chick was dead, and there were a few drops of blood around it. It was upside down and seemed to still be wet. So, my question is: do any of you have an idea on the cause of it's death? I probably gave very little details, but the hen is slightly bigger than the rooster (that we gave away). This seemed to be the only hatched egg, so I might update this in case another chick hatches.

Update: I returned to see if anything new happened. My hen had dry blood on her beak. I was waiting for my dad to get up since I'm a wimp and could never even touch that corpse.

I would try and keep the hen under surveillance - some hens do not make good mothers, and will kill or eat their chicks. If necessary you will have to take any hatched chicks away from her and make a brooder for them with heat lamp.

How's it going?

That happened to me last year with my cochin hen. She has since become acquainted with the term "Chicken pie". As has been said, some hens aren't mothering material. My belief is that if the hen fails that first try to be a mom, especially by killing her young, she doesn't get a second chance.
