Dead chick :-(

I don't care what you do. Balanced nutrition comes from premade chick starter. Not a egg.

That's true, but I think for whatever reason the scrambled eggs/mashed egg yolk is more palatable to them (smell/color/texture/whatever) than their crumbles sometimes, and if it encourages them to eat when they're listless and don't have much appetite, that can help them turn a corner in the first week when they are still fragile and getting used to feeding themselves. I also think the scrambled eggs and mashed egg yolk are easier and quicker to digest than crumbles.

So I supplement scrambled egg, mashed egg yolks, or raw egg yolk on top of their regular starter feed.

I do nothing and never lost one yet...

Sorry you are having trouble. :hmm

Prime suspects for this age would be coccidiosis, pasty butt, blocked crop...

The water nipples should help prevent coccidiosis going forward. But making sure ALL are using them is key as dehydration is also deadly fast. How many birds in how much space? What is fed including treats and supplements?

:fl
It was 7 in 7-8 sq ft. Now 6 of course. Will put the other water we back in and try some of the other suggestions. Thanks so much to all of you for the support.

It's crazy how different people's experiences are - I see so many people on these forums who lose at least one or two chicks each batch, if not more. Each year I've bought chicks I've always bought one extra each time just in case of a loss, and I never have any, so now I have all these extra damned chickens, lol...

A good word to keep in mind with chicks is "transition". When going to new things, provide both the old, and new to give them a chance to transition to the new. In the brooder, I use the traditional jug on top waterers for chicks. When they go into the coop, I put both the old waterer, and a small water bucket. In a few days, they've transitioned to the water bucket, and I can safely remove the waterer. The same thing applies to switching to nipple waterers. Put the familiar waterer in for a few days, and make sure they've caught on to using the nipple waterer.

When I order Hatchery Chicks they always give me one or two extra and I never lost one so get more birds than I wanted and always have to rehome Cockerels...

This picture is within 15 seconds of putting the waterer back in. They’re still at it a couple of minutes later. Feeling like a pretty crappy chicken dad at the moment . I’ve pulled the nipple bucket and am going to let things settle down a few days. Will also get the nitri drops and spike their water. Again, much thanks to all of you.

Desperately thirsty chicks...

I was wanting to switch to horizontal nipples with my chicks and a scenario like this is exactly why I was afraid to do it. Chickens are not the brightest animals in creation...

Glad you figured out the problem!!
