Dead Chicken? Broken Legs caused the problem?

i saw one of our roosters die today... i saw him yesterday, he was unsteady, his legs were turned sideways, and he attacked other chicks... is this a disease? hydrophobia? broken bone? if it is a disease, i don't want it to spread... please help.

Sorry you lost your rooster.

Hydrophobia (rabies) is highly unlikely. There are many possibilties for the leg unsteadiness, including moldy food eaten, Marek's, etc. Really hard to say without more info. It could be an injury as well. Can you give more detail? Are any others acting ill?

1) What type of bird , age and weight. breed: RIR age: 1 year-3 years
2) What is the behavior, exactly. attacking other chicks.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? about 2 days until he died...
4) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. there COULD be broken bones...
5) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. nothing happened... it was just walking around, the next day, the legs looked like they were broken!
6) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. hogging all the food and water...
7) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. it looks okay to me... dry, and normal... not green... brown and white.
8) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? huh???
9 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? i need help...
10) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. i can't post a real-world picture, but i can tell you it looks like a Suma wrestler's legs
11) Describe the housing/bedding in use. Horse bedding.

You know, the leg description almost sounds like a vitamin deficiency. Was he/are the rest eating layer pellets free choice? My roosters and hens always get that after 18 weeks old, and do fine.
Judging by the fact he was fighting the others for the food it seems he was desperate for nutrition or something missing from his diet. Did he free range? Could he have eaten something toxic?

Are any of the others showing any symptoms?

I know the roo is gone and it was painful for you to see it happen, but solving the problem may help someone else prevent the same problem.
