I have a variety of 6 chickens in a coop. They're all social and until today all are healthy. One died today. When I went to check on them today one was just laying down barely breathing. We live in canada but coop was only 0 degrees celcius. Its protected from wind snow and predators. Two of the six chickens including the one that died have bare necks. But I believe another is pecking them. Couldb it have been packed to death? Should i separate the bully?

Ours usually don’t bully each other, but we took ply wood and proped it in there so he is still with his kind but separated.

Welcome To BYC
Can you post some photos of your birds and housing?
What do you feed?
How old are the chickens?

I'm sorry to hear you lost one, it's hard to know the cause of death without further investigation. Getting a necropsy would give you some answers.

You have some with bare necks? Can you watch to see if the others are plucking out the feathers? Space issues are often a cause of feather picking. Birds that are bored can routinely get into the bad habit as well. IF the plucked feathers are being eaten, protein deficiency may need to be considered as well.
