Dead chicken, why, why, why!

The only hen I had that I found dead for no reason I took to the vet for a necropsy. She had a ruptured tumor on her spleen. She was only a year old. Point being, ya just never know. It is definately shocking and so sorry for your loss.

I just lost one this morning..1 year old buff orpington. I let my 8 healthy chicken into the run this morning and an hour late she was dead! I am worried for the others! So sad!

Could it be possible they are eating something bad, even moldy food? Poison, do they free range or stay in a run? WHen several drop off like that it makes me wonder about them possibly ingesting something rotten, with no other symptoms it could be the culprit but then again others are right when they say things just happen out of nowhere. I am so very sorry for your loss and hope the rest are ok

I just lost a four month old BO cockeral this morning. He was out free ranging with the rest of the flock as usual. I went to get some puppy food to feed our Great Pyr pup and when I came back, he was just lying there. Not a scratch on him. He just keeled over!

My little boy was very upset.
