Dead Chicken

Hi all

Can someone please give me some advice, the other day I found a chicken outside the coop at night, so I put it back in the coop, the next morning it had died during the night, the other chickens I have had are all fine and laying as normal. Can there just die like that?

Chickens, like many animals, tend to separate themselves from the group when they are ill. It sounds like this may have been what your girl was doing.

As far as her cause of death, it could have been a number of things.

How old was she and what breed?

She was a goldline, hen I think that's what there are called, not sure of the age but think about 18 - 24 months. No noticeable symptoms but we have had a fox lurking about and that killed another hen that had got out the enclosure about 3 weeks before. The other chickens are fine but I have put garlic and onion in the water just in case. I now have 3 other goldline and 2 other Sussex cross hens that are doing well. When we got the goldline hens there were already laying.

I wonder if it was stress but the others haven t been off there laying??????
