Dead chicken

My chicken seemed to hurt her foot, then stopped moving, then died. The chest on the other chicken looks the same. So far, she seems to be okay. Could an injury like that kill her? The cage was built exactly as instructed. Screen cloth buried 12 " into the ground. There is a 1" to 2" opening between the door and the pen. Could something small have gotten in and done this?

I'm so sorry for your loss! I'm not an expert, but was did your chicken seem to be sick before she died? Maybe she got an infection? Just confirming- one chicken hurt her foot and died, the other is still alive but has some sort of chest injury? Could you zoom in on the image or make it more clear, because I can't really see the chest that well.

How many chickens in the coop? Do you have a rooster? If the space is too small other chickens can start fighting, maybe they pecked her. Roosters can also hurt them. For now, if you haven't already, you should separate the injured hen from the flock so they don't make it worse.

How long was her foot injured before she died? That's a very pronounced keel, what do you feed them, including treats?
