I'm so upset. I went out to the coop this morning and one of my 8 week old BO's was dead. Really dead. I checked on them at 10 pm last night when I let the dog out and they were fine. She wasn't sick, no signs of distress and was the friendliest chicken we had. Eating drinking and pooping without difficulty.

I'm guessing she was flying in the coop at some point and got injured. She had a floppy neck but this being my first time with chickens I couldn't tell if it was broken or just floppy because she was dead.

We originally ordered 8 chickens, one silkie died early. Had that stargazer, neck twisting thing and wouldn't eat or drink. Now the Buff so we are down to six.

We were going to order more chicks in the spring but I'm thinking about getting some more now. I don't know.
I'm very upset. We had a funeral and burial this morning with the kids before we started homeschool. They are more upset than me.

aaaawwww I would get more now too because of the age difference. it will beeasier transitioning them. I have three age groups now I have to integrate... 25 week olds, 12 week olds and 6 week olds.

Yesterday the chickens were out in the rain. It was 80 degrees here but we were out and didn't get back in time. They seemed to be enjoying the rain when I got home but I put them in the coop. Mind you they could get in and out of the coop as they pleased-they just chose to stay outside in the rain.

Is it possible that she got cold and didn't fare well. I know-it just breaks my heart that I couldn't find anything wrong with her.
