Dead chicks. Trapping advise needed

In the big city it is not a good thing to shoot a gun. The neighbors and police kind of take a frowning look at it and it can even get you locked up. Now i know drowning is not a great way to kill a predator but it is QUICK, CLEAN AND QUIET. In the city of miami it is against the law to discharge a firearm within the city limits unless it is to protect your life. And killing a coon in a cage does not meet that challenge. Oh one other thing i was born and raised in miami and last time i checked the humane society does not take in wild animals. You must call a wildlife trapper and have him "DISPOSE" of the predator! So i am sorry if i offended you in any way but i do what i have to do to protect me and mine and i don't care about the humane feelings of ANY predator, wild or DOMESTIC.

Thanks for the replies folks. When I got home from work I saw that the carnage was worse. One of the survivors had a foot dangling almost completely ripped off. I had spent the day in between work thinking about how to 1 make the run safer and 2 to trap the vermin. A havahart trapping cage is $60 bucks so I ordered some snare type hunting traps that totaled 20 including shippping. I have an air rifle that shoots .22s so I can practice in my backyard. It's tough being a redneck in the big city.

I did reinforce the run with 1/2 except one corner I didn't have enough. I brought the chicks inside and put the quail I hatched outside. Lost one last night through the small corner that was open. I'd bring then all in until traps arrive but they stink and my wife would have a fit.

I'm sorry about your chicks, maybe hardware cloth around the bottom or all over if it's a smaller run. It gets pricey though.

If you're using a live-trap, I always like to use a can of Tuna fish. Just punch a few holes in the top and place it in the back of the live trap. They can't get the tuna fish out of the can that way, but they still smell it and are lured into the trap. You can even re-use the tuna a couple of times. I set my live trap along the edge of the fence or at a corner, so they have to either go in it, or walk around.

Hot-dogs are cheep and work good too!

Sorry for your loss, and Good-Luck!!
