Can anyone tell me how far along this little guy was before he stopped growing? It had started to smell a day ago. I’m trying to figure out when lockdown should start

That looks probably like sometimes in the third week is my guess, day 14-21, but probably somewhere in the middle, say 16-18.

I had two cayugas die, day 21 and 25 and they were more fully formed and wouldn't have stretched out straight like that. But it could be maybe 18+ days but because it died and then was in the warm incubator for awhile the body turned more into jelly as bacteria started to break it down (the smell.)

But the picture is kind of hard to tell the details.

I haven't post mortem'd any that died before day 21 and mine were post mortem'd about 24 hours after death, so my info might not be that useful.


I will say now I am weighing eggs at the beginning to track weight loss of egg weekly because I'm pretty sure at least one, if not both, died from too high humidity. But it could also be parental nutrition issues as a less likely option.
