This morning I woke up this morning to my ducks that have been nesting for over a month now and when I opened the cage there was 2 dead babies completely seperated from each other in the cage. Any reason why they could have died ? They were still wet when I looked at them like they were fresh from the egg. Thanks

Maybe they got too cold if momma duck wasn't sitting on them properly? Or it's possible the mom may have killed them if she is inexperienced. No injures you could see on them?

Sorry for late reply, No injuries that I saw when picking them up. I saw they were still wet like they were fresh from coming out the egg and still have parts still attached to them. The mom is still laying on the other eggs though.

Ok, I'd guess maybe momma pushed them out of the nest for some reason and they just got too cold and died. They really need to be under momma especially right after hatching since they are still wet and chill quickly. :/ So sorry, but hopefully she'll hatch out some more for you.

Awwww , so sorry. That is so sad.. poor ducks.
There is always a reason as to why a mother duck would abandon her babies. They know when they are weak and won't thrive.

Hopefully the others will be okay. :)
