Hello, I just wanted to post this because I am not finding anything about it here or anywhere online. I have a 3 yo Golden Comet hen who I noticed was waddling with a very heavy abdomen. Suspected egg bound, but gave calcium and epsom salt soaks but no improvement. Still eating and drinking, mostly sitting, watery green poop, some straining to breathe. Lived a week longer. Then she died. When I opened her up, she had a large mass of what looked like cooked meat in her abdomen. Really gross. Like a cooked chicken breast but way bigger. Layer after layer. I was expecting eggs. Any thoughts on what happened to her? Reproductive? Just a tumor? It was such a weird consistency.

Sounds like a lash egg. Google it and look at the photos of what one looks like

Ah, that sounds familiar. Gosh, why didn’t my buzz phrase “tumor like cooked meat” bring anything up? thanks for the help. Just wanting to know a bit more about what happened to her!!

Sorry for your loss. :hugs Sounds like a reproductive tract infection. Do you have pictures?

Thanks. Her name was Felicia. Named from Ice Cube’s movie Friday. She was very sweet. Well, in the end. She was actually a really bossy boss of the flock until she got sick. “Bye, Felicia!”

I didn’t take pics because of the smell. I almost barfed and had to wrap it up quickly. I am much better at processing healthy birds.
