So I woke up to find my amazing, vocal male dead. No harm from predators. Just dead. Should I be worried about the females still in there?? Not a clue as to why he died.... they are happy, fed well, have a good enclosure. RIP Charlie.

Can you post a pic of the enclosure? Possibly he 'flushed' and broke his neck?
Other than that, send his body in for a necropsy.
Yes the enclosure was going to be my question. I’ve had even adults devise some fairly creative methods of death .....from broken necks to wedging themselves between waterers and the cage:th

Broken neck seems possible. They are in a cage and one side has 1.5" by 1" opening. I just dont understand why he would suddenly try to get out. I literally leave the door open while feeding or attending to them and they never try to get out. Entire space is 3×3 feet, 18" high. So plenty of space. It just makes no sense to me.... but I am new to owning quail.

If something startled him or he was trying to get away from another bird, he might have flushed.
