Yes the enclosure was going to be my question. I’ve had even adults devise some fairly creative methods of death .....from broken necks to wedging themselves between waterers and the cageCan you post a pic of the enclosure? Possibly he 'flushed' and broke his neck?
Other than that, send his body in for a necropsy.

If you're concerned, you can send the body in to a state lab for a necropsy. The tests aren't too expensive and it might be worth it for your peace of mind.

If something startled him or he was trying to get away from another bird, he might have flushed.Broken neck seems possible. They are in a cage and one side has 1.5" by 1" opening. I just dont understand why he would suddenly try to get out. I literally leave the door open while feeding or attending to them and they never try to get out.
